Just a quick question on something I’ve always been curious about. When you’re driving, is your rearview mirror directly at eye level? I always have a large amount of my view blocked by the damn things and I’m curious if it’s just because of my torso height or if everyone has the same issue.
They’re second only to A-pillars for “Oh shit I didn’t even see that guy” moments.
(Apologies for posting so many things so rapidly. Have a hilariously high resolution picture of a rearview mirror as compensation.)

I’m 6 ft tall, and, yeah, sometimes. Newer cars have you sitting way higher than in older ones, so while it’s usually fine in my Tipos or my Opala, driving my mom’s Onix does have that effect.

Mine is over my head, but it’s also the only rear view mirror I’ve ever seen that is roof mounted.

The Tacoma always drove me crazy because the mirror sat so low..

Sometimes. I’m 6'1"ish and run into this problem probably more often the newer the car is, somehow, all other things being equal. Dodge Caravan - yep, Toyota Corolla- yep, my Benz - a little, my Rover - some, but only because the windshield is tiny, W123 Benz - not really, etc.
Now, if you had this old Imperial, the size issues would be reversed:

5'11 here, never had this problem. I tend to sit as low as possible though. Gotta keep that center of gravity down!

Not really, I’m 5'11 but I usually keep the seat at its lowest setting and as further from the steering wheel as possible.

The rear-view mirror in my Miata obscures a pretty large portion of visibility but it has double articulation (at the windshield and at the mirror) so I place it as high as it can go to free up forward visibility.
I still have to duck my head to see past the mirror plenty though.

Do you have the back ball joint at max rise? Most have joints at the windshield and the mirror.

My car's rearview mirror is above my line of sight; I’m rather short, though.
It could depend on the car, too. When I went to the 2016 D.C. Auto Show, I sat in the Scion iM; a review that I’d read had knocked the car for a low-mounted rearview mirror, and that certainly seemed to be the case when I saw it for myself.

YES!! For me, they’re the #1 place I don’t see things - invariably pedestrians, too. I think that mirrors have gotten both bigger and lower in recent years.

I’m (kinda) short so...no. Never ever been in a car where this was an issue.

This is a regular problem with me (I’m 6'3") and it varies car to car.
In a Mini, the mirror is directly in my sightline but I have a clear view in an Abarth.
I was in an Equinox where the mirror was in the way but realized I could pivot the second joint on the mirror arm in a way that moved the whole thing higher making visability perfect.
Not every car has the same range in its mount though

In most full size cars made before 2000, yes. In other cars it is below eye level and reduces visibility dangerously for me.

Yeah, big time. I can only see the car directly behind me in my rear view mirror, and I have to bend down to see traffic lights, etc.
Also, that rear view mirror pictured is what my mom’s RAV4 has. The backup camera on it failed and cost $600 to replace.

Yeah, this is a big problem for me actually. I’m 6' tall, and most of that is torso. In my truck which has no seat height adjustment, the mirror completely blocks my view of any car stopped to my right at a 4-way stop sign. It’s a huge pain in the ass.
